Sarah Polley up for Directors Guild of America doc prize for 'Stories We Tell'

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The accolades keep rolling in for Sarah Polley's "Stories We Tell."

The intensely personal film has earned the actress-turned-filmmaker a Directors Guild of America nomination for outstanding directorial achievement in documentaries.

The DGA released a list of five nominees including Zachary Heinzerling for "Cutie and the Boxer," Jehane Noujaim for "The Square," Joshua Oppenheimer for "The Act of Killing" and Lucy Walker for "The Crash Reel."

"Stories We Tell" is also on the short list for an Academy Award nomination for best feature documentary. The nominations come out Thursday.

The film delves into a long-held family secret about Polley's true parentage. It won awards from the New York Film Critics Circle and National Board of Review last month and a $100,000 prize from the Toronto Film Critics Association last year.

The DGA winner will be revealed at a dinner Jan. 25 in Los Angeles.
