Veteran receiver Jamel Richardson returns to Roughriders

December 22, 2014 - 11:40 AM

REGINA - Jamel Richadson is returning to the city where he started his CFL career.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Monday they have signed the veteran international wide receiver to a contract.

The six-foot-three, 215-pound native of Syracuse, N.Y., returns to the CFL after missing a season and a half of football.

He tore the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee midway through the 2013 season while practising with the Montreal Alouettes. He missed the remainder of the 2013 season and was cut by the Alouettes before the 2014 campaign.

The 32-year-old started his career in Regina in 2003 and played his first four seasons with the Roughriders.

After missing the 2007 season to attend training camp with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, he returned in 2008 with the Alouettes.

Richardson has 8,074 receiving yards over his career, the 39th highest total in CFL history. He has recorded 24 career 100-yard games on his way to being named a CFL all-star twice (2008, 2011) and a East Division all-star four times (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011).

He won two Grey Cup championships with Montreal in 2009 and 2010, and was named the game's MVP in '10 after putting up 109 receiving yards on eight receptions.
