EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Transportation and football officials say they're armed with thousands of trucks and more than 60,000 tons of salt to combat weather that could jeopardize the Super Bowl from kicking off as scheduled in February.
Officials held a press conference on Wednesday at a snowy MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., to assure the public that snow or ice will not hinder the big game on Feb. 2.
New Jersey Department of Transportation Deputy Commissioner Joseph Mrozek (MROH'-zehk) says the state can deploy more than 820 vehicles and about 60,000 tons of salt within a 30-mile radius of the stadium.
Stadium CEO Brad Mayne says there are several massive snow melters to clear the field. That includes one giant machine that can melt up to 600 tons of snow per hour.
