VERNON - The Coquitlam Express rallied from a 3-0 first-period deficit to defeat the host Vernon Vipers 6-4 in Game 1 of the BCHL Fred Page Cup Finals.
After Brendan Persley, Brett Mulcahy and Demico Hannoun had staked Vernon to a 3-0 lead, Bo Pieper scored his first two of four on the night for the Express in the second period.
Corey Mackin evened it up shorthanded, Coquitlam's fifth shorty of the playoffs, to make it 3-3 going to the third.
Mason Blacklock restored the Snakes lead early in the final frame but Pieper rattled off two more, including the winner, and Mackin put the finishing touches on the Express scoring.
Gordie Defiel made 31 saves for the win in the Express crease.
Game 2 goes Saturday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in Vernon at Kal Tire Place.
