Everything is coming up roses for Tanner Hawryluk.

Maybe daisies, lavender and peonies, too — all sorts of bedding plants. And, definitely, “I dos”.

The Kamloops man wanted to propose to his girlfriend in a unique and show-stopping way this past weekend and reached out to Ollek Nurseries to get the job done. It was a task they proved to be more than up for.

Hawryluk works up north and when he returned to Kamloops last week the ring he’d long ago ordered was finally ready so he rolled out his plan.

He and his fiancee Julia Abramowicz boarded a helicopter with their daughter and, while it was windy, they made their way toward the nursery.

“It was super windy, and my girlfriend isn’t the greatest with helicopters,” he said. “The pilot did a couple of loops, and I pointed it out. I got her and my stepdaughter to read it.”

When he asked, Abramowicz read it fairly casually, clearly not knowing it was a message for her.

“Then I got out the ring and she looks back at it, and then at the ring, and lit up, started crying and said ‘yes’,” he said. “I had a speech in my mind, but with the headset and the (sound of) the helicopter that didn’t happen.”

Hawryluk said everyone involved was wonderful and Ollek was amazing, going above and beyond to make his dream proposal go off without a hitch.
