6 released pending trial over IS attack on Turkish airport

ISTANBUL - A Turkish court has ordered the release of six defendants in the trial against dozens of suspects for their alleged links to the Islamic State group and involvement in last year's airport attack.

Official Anadolu news agency said the six men, including three foreign nationals, were released Wednesday — the third day of court hearings — but remain on trial and were banned from leaving the country. The trial was adjourned until Jan. 18

On June 28, 2016, three suspected IS militants armed with automatic weapons stormed Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul and detonated their suicide vests, killing 46 people and injuring 163 others.

Thirty-two other people remain behind bars for alleged links to IS. Four suspects haven't been found yet.

Turkey has suffered a string of attacks blamed on IS militants that have killed more than 300 people since 2015.
