GENEVA - A federal court has ordered the Swiss state to pay compensation to two Syrian men arrested and held on terrorism-related charges that were subsequently thrown out.
The Swiss federal prosecutor's office sent court documents to The Associated Press on Wednesday indicating the two men are to receive a total of 23,500 Swiss francs (about $23,750) and have their legal fees and other expenses covered under the Sept. 16 ruling that became publicly known this week.
The two men were jailed for 50 days after their arrest in Geneva in December on suspicion they had manufactured, concealed and transported explosives and toxic gases, and allegedly violated bans on militants groups like al-Qaida and Islamic State.
An investigation later turned up no evidence of wrongdoing in the case, leading to their release.
