Environment Canada warns about heat in Kamloops area for the next week

KAMLOOPS - Get ready for warmer temperatures across the Thompson region.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the North and South Thompson areas, with temperatures of 30 C expected to last early into next week for the North Thompson. Things will be even warmer in the South Thompson, with temperatures of 35 C expected.

A stretch of well above normal temperatures is forecast for the southwestern Interior as a ridge of high pressure remains anchored offshore.

The warning is being issued due to the persistent high daytime temperatures, warm overnight low temperatures, and the extended duration of the warm period, Environment Canada says.

People are being reminded to stay hydrated, stay cool as much as possible during the day, seek out shade when outside, use sunscreen with 30 SPF or more, and never leave people or pets in a parked car.

You should also check in on older family, friends and neighbours to make sure they're cool and drinking water.
