PENTICTON – RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are looking into the death of an elderly Penticton man after the boat he was fishing in overturned on Friday.

On the afternoon of Friday, April 21, an emergency call about an overturned boat and report of boaters in Yellow Lake came in, according to an RCMP release.

Witnesses say other boaters rushed to the aid of two men who were in the boat when it flipped. The two men were brought to the shore and only one man survived, RCMP say.

Regional coroner Larry Marzinzik says in an email the Coroners Service is investigating the sudden death of an elderly man found in Yellow Lake after the boat he and another man were in capsized on April 21.  The identity of the Penticton man who drowned has not being released.

Keremeos fire chief Jordy Bosscha says his crews were on the scene at a car crash on Highway 3A just south of Yellow Lake when dispatch called and asked them to attend the drowning at Yellow Lake. He says his crew helped B.C. Ambulance paramedics load the victims into a waiting ambulance.

Yellow Lake is located on Highway 3A approximately 15 kilometres west of the junction of 3A and Highway 97.

— This story was corrected and updated at 11:35 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 to say the Keremeos Fire Department attended the drowning, not the Kaledan Fire Department as originally reported by RCMP. A statement from the regional coroner was also included in the update.
