Elderly driver falls asleep, hits house

An elderly driver was taken to Kelowna General Hospital Wednesday afternoon, after he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashing into this house on Armour Crescent.

KELOWNA - An elderly man was taken to hospital Wednesday after he drove his car through a fence and into a house off Lakeshore Drive.

Kaylee Sanborn lives in the home at 674 Armour Crescent and says she was just getting back from picking her daughter up from school when she saw a black Lincoln in her yard with an elderly man standing next to it.

"He was by himself and he was complaining about his chest where the airbag had hit him," she says. "He thinks he fell asleep."

The driver, estimated to be in his late 80's, was taken to KGH.

"He was standing up and talking but I think he was in shock," says Sanborn.

The house, which sustained damage to the siding, yard and fence, is insured.

The car had to be towed from the yard after it sustained significant damage to the front end.
