Early season wildfire near Oliver being held

B.C. Wildfire Service attended an early season blaze near Oliver on the weekend.

A fire of unknown origin broke out near McKinney Road yesterday, March 28.

B.C Wildfire Service communication officer Kayla Fraser says the fire is classified this morning, March 29, as being held.

“We don’t anticipate any further spread beyond the existing boundaries,” Fraser says.

The fire is located about eight kilometres northwest of Oliver. Five B.C. wildfire crew members are working the fire today.

The fire reached two ha in size. Fraser says the fire is under investigation.

The Kamloops Fire Centre has responded to three wildfires in the past four days.

A total of seven wildfires have been reported province - wide in the past week.
