Kamloops Mounties seized drugs, cash and cell phones after checking for a driver's sobriety and license status.

Kamloops RCMP pulled a vehicle over at Columbia Street and 6 Avenue on Sept. 19 while on "proactive patrols," eventually arresting three men for drug possession, according to an RCMP news release.

Police stopped the vehicle just after 8 a.m., where they found more than $5,000 in cash, 50 grams of each suspected fentanyl, meth and cocaine, RCMP said.

Five cell phones and other paraphernalia, including a weigh scale, were also seized from the vehicle.

Two of the men arrested are from Kamloops and the third is from Celista, RCMP said. They were released at the scene as the investigation continues. Charges could later be approved by B.C. Prosecution.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said this investigation is an example of police efforts to keep toxic drugs off the street and prevent overdoses.

It allows drug users more time to get treatment for addictions, she said.
