Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement stopped the truck and trailer and found that the trailer weighed in at 2,900 kg.

Not only did it not have working brakes, the breakaway device was inoperative and was not even connected, according to the agency’s Facebook page where it was posted earlier today, July 4. It does not say when the incident happened.

A breakaway device is supposed to be connected to the towing vehicle so, if the trailer becomes detached, a pin will be pulled to activate the brakes, assuming, of course, that they work.

“The driver was issued three tickets,” the Facebook posting says. “The licence plate was seized, requiring the vehicle to be repaired and inspected.”
