Driver killed in crash near Vernon on weekend
A Vernon man died in a single-vehicle crash near the head of Okanagan Lake this past weekend.
Officers responded to the crash on Head of the Lake Road near Vernon at around 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, according to an RCMP press release.
The 53-year-old man behind the wheel, and the only person in the vehicle, was driving south when the SUV went off the road and crashed through a fence. The man died as a result of his injuries from the collision.
RCMP have not identified the man who was killed in the crash.
Police believe speed and weather conditions were factors in the collision.
The road was temporarily closed so police and first responders could work safely.
“Our sincerest and heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” Vernon North Okanagan spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.
