US lurching from 'crisis to crisis,' politics influenced by money: Gary Doer

WINNIPEG - Canada's ambassador to the United States says the American political system is heavily influenced by money and is lurching from one budgetary crisis to the next.

Gary Doer told a gathering in Winnipeg that Washington hasn't passed a budget in four years.

He says there have been four budgetary crises since he's been there and there is a fifth one looming.

Doer says politicians can simply vote down budgets without consequence.

He calls the influence money has in the American political system "quite remarkable."

Doer says it is incredible the amount of money third-parties spend to quote — "buy votes" — before joking that he couldn't say that out loud.
