KELOWNA – The stage adaptation of the hit movie “Dirty Dancing” is making a stop in the Okanagan on its North American tour next year.

“Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage” will hit the stage at Kelowna’s Prospera Place on May 4, 2018.

The show in Kelowna is one of 50 stops of a North American tour marking the 30th anniversary of the film, according to a media release.

The company of 24 includes Aaron Patrick Craven playing Johnny Castle and Kaleigh Courts as Francis “Baby” Houseman.

The production tours with a live eight-piece band to perform the hits from the movie.

Eleanor Bergstein wrote the screenplay for the movie and has inked the book for the stage production.

“As I learned how many people watched the movie over and over and over, I began to think that what they really wanted was to share more physically in the event, to step through the screen and be there while the story was happening.” Bergstein says in the release. “And if that was true, then its natural form was theatre – live audiences watching live bodies dancing and singing here and now in the present.”

Tickets go on sale Friday, Dec. 1 and can be purchased through Select Your Tickets online.
