Deals at trunk sale this weekend

Love a good garage sale hunt? Then you’ll want to take in the annual fall Trunk Sale this weekend at Okanagan College. Organized by the Regional Waste Reduction Office, the Trunk Sale champions reuse and recycling with one huge community style garage sale in the Okanagan College parking lot this Saturday from 8am until noon.

Rae Stewart with the Waste Reduction Office says with over 150 vendors signed up to sell their treasures right from the back of their vehicles, or trunks, it promises to be a busy day of bargains and reuse. “The beauty of this event is no driving around from garage sale to garage sale, you can find a ton of treasures up for grabs all in one convenient location. You just never know what’s going to show up on sale day--as they say, one person’s trash is another’s treasure. Plus, keeping any unnecessary material out of our landfill is always a bonus.”

Stewart says they initially designed these events for those in condos or apartments who don’t traditionally have the opportunity to host their own garage sales, but naturally it’s not limited in that way, anyone can take part. And when the sale is over, given the event is all about reuse, the Salvation Army, Big Brothers and Sisters,  Planet Earth Recycling and Canadian Diabetes will also be on hand to accept donations from sellers not wishing to pack up their wares and take them home again.

The Trunk Sale runs rain or shine this Saturday (September 28thh) from 8am until noon at  Okanagan College, 1000 KLO Road in parking lot 17 next to the student residence buildings.  The sale is free to attend, with  a pancake breakfast hosted by the Okanagan Mission Lions Club.
