A Golden man has died after he crashed his bicycle on a bridge and fell into the Columbia River late last week.

RCMP officers were called to a report that a man, who had been riding his bicycle across the bridge on Kicking Horse Drive in Golden, had crashed his bike and went over the side of the bridge and fallen into the Columbia River, at approximately 5:20 p.m. MST, Friday, Aug. 6.

“The RCMP immediately engaged the Golden Search and Rescue unit who was able to retrieve the 39-year-old man from the river and commence CPR. He was transported to the local area hospital by BC Emergency Health Services where he later pronounced deceased," Golden RCMP Sgt. Betty Watson said in a press release.

Criminality is not suspected in the man’s death and the B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the circumstances of the man’s death.

RCMP and the coroners service will not be released the man's identity.
