Val Sweeting will go for second straight Tour Challenge women's title

REGINA - Val Sweeting will be going for her second straight Tour Challenge title, while on the men's side there will be a new champion.

Sweeting and her rink from Edmonton downed Winnipeg's Jennifer Jones 6-5 on Saturday in the tournament semifinals at the first Grand Slam event of the season.

The 2016 champion will face Sweden's Anna Hasselborg in the title draw. Hasselborg held on to beat Scotland's Eve Muirhead 6-5 in the other semi.

Meanwhile, the men's final will see Brad Gushue of St. John's, N.L., against Norway's Steffen Walstad.

Gushue earned his spot with a 5-2 victory over Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., while Walstad beat defending champion Niklas Edin of Sweden 6-5.

Both championship draws go Sunday.
