The Latest: Connecticut double slaying linked to baby death

NEW MILFORD, Conn. - The Latest on a double slaying in Connecticut (all times local):

5:30 p.m.

Authorities say a shooting in Connecticut that killed two people is connected with the slaying of an infant in North Carolina.

Police say the Connecticut case in which the suspected shooter was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot is linked to the slaying of the baby found Thursday in Knightdale, North Carolina.

An attorney for Steven Pladl of North Carolina says the people who were shot in Connecticut were his client's daughter, Katie Pladl, and her adoptive father. The attorney says the infant slain in North Carolina was the biological child of Steven Pladl and Katie Pladl.

The attorney, Rick Friedman, said Steven Pladl was the man found dead in the second vehicle. Friedman said he was representing Pladl in a felony incest case involving the relationship with his daughter.

Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.

Police say two people were shot and killed inside a pickup truck in western Connecticut and a suspect was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot across the state line in New York.

New Milford Police Lt. Lawrence Ash said officers responding to reports of gunfire Thursday morning found a man and a woman dead inside the truck at an intersection on Route 7.

He said police were searching for the suspect's vehicle, a Honda minivan, when he was found dead inside the vehicle several miles away in Dover, New York.

Ash said the motive for the shooting was not clear but there was no further threat to the community.
