Saskatchewan Appeal Court tossed convicted Mountie killer's appeal

REGINA - Saskatchewan's highest court has rejected the appeal of a man convicted of shooting two Mounties to death.

Curt Dagenais' (DAH'-zhuh-nay) was hoping to have his convictions overturned by the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.

Dagenais admitted shooting the officers after a chase on country roads near Spiritwood in 2006, but claimed it was self-defence.

The appeal claimed the trial judge made an error when it failed to put the defence of provocation to the jury.

But the three-judge panel dismissed the appeal as soon as it had finished hearing arguments.

Dagenais was convicted in 2009 of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of RCMP constables Marc Bourdages (boor-DAZH') and Robin Cameron, as well as the attempted murder of another officer.
