COVID infections continue to mount in B.C. despite an 80% vaccination rate

The province has reached the 80% mark for people over the age of 12 who are fully vaccinated while 87.5% have one vaccination.

Yet there continues to be hundreds of new cases detected every day with the provincial tally today, Sept. 24, of 743 with 177 of those in the Interior Health region.

There were 292 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 111 in Vancouver Coastal, 106 in Northern Health and 57 on Vancouver Island, according to a Ministry of Health news release.

There have been seven more deaths in the last 24 hours, including one in the Interior Health region.

There are 5,979 active cases in B.C. with 319 people in hospital, 149 of whom are in intensive care. There are 1,286 active cases in Interior Health.

In the week of Sept. 16 to 22 there have been 4,543 new COVID cases in B.C. with 67.3% being people who are totally unvaccinated versus 25% who are fully vaccinated.

Out of 436 people hospitalized during that same week, 73.9% were not vaccinated and 18% were fully vaccinated.
