CARDIFF, Wales - Two recent anti-terrorism operations in Belgium will not have an impact on Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard's planned visit to the country.
Couillard is expected to spend two days in Belgium as of Sunday to discuss political and economic issues before attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Belgian authorities detained 13 people Friday on suspicion of terrorism-related crimes. The arrests came a day after the country's security services killed two men and arrested a third in an operation in the eastern city of Verviers.
Couillard's team said the security situation was being monitored but that no additional safety measures had been taken because the premier, as per the norm while abroad, is already under greater protection.
The threat level in Belgium was raised to three on a scale of four after Thursday's operation.
In addition to visiting the port of Antwerp, Couillard is expected to meet with European Commission representatives and speak to the Canada-Belgium-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce.
Couillard was in Wales on Friday to meet with Carwyn Jones, the country's first minister.
Quebec and Wales are hoping to strengthen economic ties and boost relations in the fields of aerospace and information technologies.
