Cops rallying for jail'n'bail fundraiser

Supt. Reg Burgess arrests Vernon Fire chief Keith Green.

VERNON — Cops for Kids, along with the Armstrong Kin Club and Boston Pizza Vernon will be sending otherwise law abiding citizens to the slammer this Friday in the name of helping children.

Suspects will be arrested by off-duty police and taken to Boston Pizza where they will be tried by the presiding judge and face some time behind bars to fundraise for their bail.

Money raised from this event will help Cops for Kids fund much needed medical equipment, therapy, learning and mobility aids for local children.

Boston Pizza owner Sean Matile is proud to host the event. "This is a fun way for us to raise money to help kids with items that aren't covered by government or local agencies," Matile says. "If you'd like to snitch on a friend or coworker, or even nominate yourself, we'd love to lock you up in jail for a while."

Cops for Kids president and RCMP superintendent Reg Burgess is grateful for the generosity of the North Okanagan community.

"We still need more jailbirds to help us reach our fundraising goal," Burgess says. "Cops for Kids has helped quite a few North Okanagan families with finances to help them through with their struggles."

"As our requests from local families grow, we're working harder to meet that demand."

If you, or someone you know might be deserving of a summons, contact Cops for Kids online or call (250)801-4438.
