Cool and wet weekend in store for Kamloops

Sandals and sunscreen will be exchanged for rubber boots and umbrellas this weekend as Environment Canada predicts cooler, damper weather in Kamloops starting on Saturday.

KAMLOOPS - An upper low moving into the region on Saturday is expected to cool things down considerably for Kamloops residents.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says his biggest concern is for winds and dry lightning during the initial stages of the cool down but says the changing weather is “mostly good news.”

"It’s going to be cooler and more humid, but where most of the precipitation falls, it’s random and tough to predict,” he says. The downside is the change is happening on the weekend.

Lundquist says there is a slight chance some areas could see a thunderstorm today, Aug. 8, or tomorrow but the real transition day is Saturday.

By Sunday, temperatures are expected to be as much as 20 degrees cooler for a high than they are today.

Environment Canada has continued a special weather statement for hot weather today in Kamloops.

Today's forecast calls for a sunny day in Kamloops with a high of 35 Celsius and a low of 16 C.

Tomorrow should start off sunny, but clouds will begin rolling in around midday with a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. The high should reach 34 C with an overnight low of 20 C with cloudy periods through the night.

On Saturday expect showers and a high of 27 C. The showers are expected to continue through the night with a low of 18 C.

More rain is forecast through the day on Sunday and into Sunday night with a high of 23 C and a low of 16 C.

Monday is expected to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers and a high of 24 C. Monday night should see continuing cloudiness and a 30 per cent chance of showers with a low of 15 C.

The sun should return on Tuesday with a mix of sun and cloud, a high of 26 C and a low of 16 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 29 C and lows of 14 C.
