A contaminated street drug supply is presenting risks in Penticton and causing overdoses in Kelowna.
The drug known as down is a mixture of fentanyl and other substances.
In Penticton, there is a batch of down going around being sold as light green chunks that may contain benzos, in addition to fentanyl, according to an Interior Health drug alert.
Anybody who consumes it is putting themselves at a high risk of overdose, long periods of sleepiness, and possible memory loss.
In Kelowna, purple chunks with a chalky texture are being sold as down. They contain fentanyl, benzos, and possibly carfentanil.
Interior Health warns that it has caused several overdoses in the past week, and it can cause long periods of sleepiness.
Both warnings remain in effect until Jan. 27.
