KAMLOOPS - Kamloops city council is holding a public hearing tonight as the city gets ready for the federal government’s legalization of non-medical cannabis.

Council is gathering input on where cannabis retail stores can set up shop in the city once recreational weed becomes legal for adults later this year.

Since last December, the city has been setting up the framework for the retail sale of cannabis and how the stores will be regulated. It will be managed similarly to the retail sale of liquor.

The public can expect to hear where retailers can set up shop, including buffer zones between pot shops and schools.

The public hearing is tonight, May 8, at 7 p.m. at the Sandman Centre.
