City gets wrong school district on property tax forms

PENTICTON - Property owners will be mailed amended property tax notices after the City noticed an administrative error, naming the wrong school district.

The 2014 property tax calculations listed the school district as District 53, Okanagan-Similkameen, rather than the correct District 67, Okanagan-Skaha.

“We sincerely apologize to affected property owners for the erros, and regret any inconvenience or confusion this may cause,” said Colin Fisher, Chief Financial Officer. “It is critical that property owners be charged only the amount necessary, and the City’s Revenue Services team is working swiftly to correct the error for all of our customers.”

Property owners are asked to refer to the amended tax notice for the correct amount of money owed. Taxes can be recalculated automatically at City Hall for those not wishing to wait for the mailed copy.

Residents using MyCity to claim their Provincial Home Owner Grant can check a message on the home-screen. E-bill users must refer to the most recent tax notice dated June 11.

Staff will be calling owners who have already paid to inform them of rebate options, including full refund or crediting their account with the difference for 2015.

Staff can be reached at 250-490-2485 or taxclk@penticton.ca.
