Child struck while crossing at Penticton intersection
A 12-year-old has been taken to the hospital after they were struck by a vehicle in Penticton this morning.
The child was legally crossing the intersection at Duncan Avenue East and Columbia Street when they were struck by a vehicle, according to an RCMP media release. RCMP don't say what kind of vehicle was involved.
RCMP said emergency crews responded at approximately 7:40 a.m. today, June 15.
First responders tended to the child and then spoke with the driver of the vehicle and witnesses. The child’s injuries were described as minor.
“The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, and was fully cooperative with the investigation,” Penticton RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy said in the release.
“There is no indication that speed or impairment was a factor. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian. This is a reminder for both pedestrians and drivers to be cautious when driving during times when children are coming and going from school.”
