Celebrate the beginning of winter at Summerhill Pyramid Winery
It’s been a tradition at Summerhill Pyramid Winery since 1997, and this year’s observation of the arrival of the winter solstice is no exception.
The winery is inviting residents to join them in a candle light procession led by children, followed by the community on Saturday, Dec. 21, with the procession starting at 6 p.m.
Following the procession will be a crystal bowl meditation in the pyramid.
Winery owner Stephen Cipes says the event has been part of the winery since the opening of the pyramid, where all changes of the seasons and other celestial events are observed.
Saturday's activities have an Indigenous component, too.
"We're fortunate to have an authentic reproduction of a native pit house, or Kekuli," Cipes says. "We'll follow the pyramid event with a potluck organic vegetable feast in the Kekuli, with drumming and dancing around the fire."
"Anyone is allowed to come, it's our community gift. It's a chance to appreciate the changes in nature and be with fire and of the earth, the way it used to be for thousands of years," he says.
Participants should dress warmly, arriving at the winery a few minutes before the procession at 6 p.m.
Summerhill Pyramid Winery is located at 4870 Chute Lake Road in Kelowna.
