Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week

TORONTO - Five things to watch this week in Canadian business:

Markets closed: Instead of talking turkey, Canada's traders and brokers will be noshing on turkey on Thanksgiving Monday, when all Canadian financial markets are closed for the holiday. It's business as usual on U.S. markets.

Irving trial: Court proceedings involving Irving Shipbuilding begin in a Halifax courthouse on Tuesday. The company is charged with violations under Nova Scotia's health and safety act after a worker suffered a serious head injury at the city's shipyard in 2014.

Softwood lumber: A Canada-U.S. agreement on softwood lumber trade is due to expire on Wednesday. That could open the door for U.S. producers to petition for fresh duties on imported Canadian lumber.

Economic confab: The Public Policy Forum is hosting a conference called "Canada Growth Summit: Beyond Two Per Cent" in Ottawa on Wednesday. Speakers include CIBC CEO Victor Dodig, Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains, Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Bombardier CEO Alain Bellemare.

Housing: On Tuesday, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports housing starts for September and on Friday the Canadian Real Estate Association releases September housing sales.
