VERNON - On April 15th the Vernon Winter Carnival Board of Directors decided on the 2015 Winter Carnival theme; Carnival of Rock & Roll which will run February 6th - 15th, 2015.
"We had almost 75 theme suggestions from the community towards the 55th Vernon Winter Carnival. There was a lot of deliberation over the final choice, with the board feeling Rock and Roll will lend itself to allot of eras and ages of participants. We are excited to begin planning with the new theme and look forward to the seeing the ideas and ways how community can participate," said executive director Diana Williamson.
The Vernon Winter Carnival Society will have a new Chairperson leading the 55th annual event as current Chairman Calvin Hoy will not be seeking re-election and moving to the position of Past Chair.
Calvin said “I have accomplished what I set out to do 6 years ago when I joined the board. My objective was to broaden the demographic appeal with more of a family focus and have the business community buy back in. I think we have accomplished that, witnessed by last year being the most successful carnival since the 70’s with many events selling out. I am very proud of the board of directors for the contribution they have made to make Vernon a great place to live.
The Society's Annual General Meeting will be held in May. The Winter Carnival is seeking 3 individuals interested joining the board of directors.

Vernon Winter Carnival is a community celebration for the entire family. For more than 50 years the community has come together to celebrate Carnival with family and friends. More than 25,000 people participated in the over 100 events in 2014. The Vernon Winter Carnival is the largest Winter Festival in all of Western Canada and the third largest in Canada.
