KAMLOOPS - The careless handling of an airsoft pistol resulted in the arrest of a Kamloops man for possession of a controlled substance.

Kamloops police spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said in a press release a man was arrested at around 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, after police were called following an incident at the Tim Hortons on Columbia Street.

Two men were standing in the restaurant when one of them dropped what appeared to be a handgun on the floor. Shelkie says the suspect said "whoops,” and put it back in his pocket.

She says officers attending the restaurant found the two men outside and subsequently discovered an airsoft pistol as well as "an amount of controlled substances in his pockets."

The 44-year-old is known to police. Charges are presently being considered.
