The BC government now allows cannabis smoking or vaping on the same outdoor patios cigarette smoking is allowed.

Any restaurants, bars, festivals that allow outdoor smoking can now give the OK for cannabis too, according to a provincial government bulletin issued, Feb. 15.

"To support the legal cannabis industry in the province, the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch is making gradual changes to improve hospitality and tourism opportunities for the cannabis industry," the bulletin read.

Along with the new patio rules, the province eased restrictions on promotion of places to smoke.

People still can't smoke or vape cannabis within the retail stores, but employees can advertise or direct people to another business where they can.

With the new rule changes, cannabis stores can direct promote a business that allows cannabis on their patio or simply direct people to a public picnic space to smoke.
