Canada Post plans on electrifying 100% of its fleet by 2040, starting in Nanaimo.

Delivery vehicles with internal combustion engines at the “test depot” in Nanaimo were replaced by 14 fully electric cargo vans, according to a Canada Post media release.

Canada Post has a plan to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, and the corporation aims to transition half of its 14,000 vehicles to electric by 2030.

“Last year, the Corporation set aside more than $1 billion to cut emissions and move forward on the electrification of its last mile fleet,” Suromitra Sanatani, chair of the board, said in the release.

“This critical investment has led to important progress on Canada Post’s plan to achieve net zero emissions by 2050,” Sanatani said.
