Canada Post cutbacks continue

Canada Post is cutting back hours at several smaller retail locations.

KAMLOOPS — Canada Post services in Kamloops have been altered by the restructuring of the downtown retail office and now some outlying offices will also see changes.

Beginning the week of May 5 the offices at Heffley Creek and Savona will no longer offer Saturday retail service. A reduction in hours at the McLure office can be expected throughout the week.

Canada Post says there will be no change to the range of services offered and the Saturday closures will not affect access to mail. Due to the setup of the McLure office mail will only be accessible during office hours, which will now be 9 a.m. to noon Monday-Wednesday and Fridays and noon to 6 p.m. on Thursdays.

The Heffley Creek office will be open Monday-Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Fridays. The Savona office will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Fridays.

In the fall the downtown Kamloops retail space saw a slight change in hours and a redesign of the space. While Canada Post said the changes would not affect service levels, council felt the overall change resulted in a less customer friendly environment.

“It’s essentially a hole in the wall and a piece of glass,” Mayor Peter Milobar said when the changes were first announced, “and everyone will line up a bit longer.”
