CALLING ALL ATHLETES: RBC Training Ground Regional Qualifier Event Coming to Kamloops

KAMLOOPS - PacificSport Interior BC is pleased to announce that, in partnership with the City of Kamloops, it will be hosting the RBC Training Ground athlete identification camp on February 12, 2017, at the Tournament Capital Centre, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.

The Canadian Sport Institute has been implementing the PODIUM SEARCH™ program within BC for the past five years in an effort to find great athletes and, potentially, our next national champions and Olympians. Recently, a partnership was secured through the Canadian Olympic Foundation for two national sponsors to expand this program nationally as the RBC Training Ground.

RBC Training Ground is a program designed to help identify athletes with Olympic potential and allow them to train and compete in sports they may not have considered. Athletes between the ages of 14 and 25 will undergo anthropometry (body measurements) to start the camp and then proceed through a series of stations that measure speed, power, strength, and endurance in front of coaches and officials from National Sport Organizations (NSOs).

For PacificSport Interior BC’s Executive Director, Carolynn Boomer, it’s about more than just hosting another event. She states that “PacificSport Interior BC is honoured to be selected as a RBC Training Ground Regional Qualifier at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops. It is exceptional to have a national sponsor elevating the importance of our next generation of potential Olympic athletes in our region.”

Select athletes who achieve certain performance benchmarks will be invited to compete at the RBC Training Ground Main Final in Richmond, BC, at the Olympic Oval, on March 4, 2017. The best of the best may receive financial support towards their training and competition programs for up to three years. The winner of the BC regional final will be awarded a trip to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Athletes can register online directly with RBC Training Ground at www.rbctrainingground.com or go to our website for more information at www.pacificsportinteriorbc.com.
