The Latest: Police kill gunman at California trailer park

SAN DIEGO - The Latest on a shooting that killed a gunman at a California trailer park (all times local):

6:30 p.m.

San Diego police say they killed a man who pointed a rifle at officers at a local trailer park.

The man, who was in his 50s, died Wednesday afternoon in the San Ysidro area. His name wasn't immediately released.

Police tell KNSD-TV they were called to the park at about 1:30 p.m. Witnesses said the man was running through the complex and fired several shots.

Police say when arriving officers tried to contract the man, he pointed his rifle at them and an officer shot him. He died at the scene.

Police say witnesses described the rifle as an AK-47 but that wasn't immediately confirmed.

It wasn't clear whether the man lived in the park or had any relatives there.

Authorities say a man has died after he was seen carrying an assault rifle in a San Diego trailer park but there's no immediate word on whether he was shot by police or killed himself.

Police tell the San Diego Union-Tribune that a report of shots fired sent officers to a San Ysidro trailer park at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A police helicopter spotted the gunman walking down a street. He died at the scene a short time later but details weren't immediately available.

Trailer park resident Enrique Sandoval tells the Union-Tribune he was at work when his wife called to say a man with a gun was searching for someone at the park and had fired several shots.

No residents or police were hurt.
