The Latest: 1 arrest after car crashes on Santa Monica Pier

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - The Latest on a car crash on the Santa Monica Pier (all times local):

11:25 a.m.

Authorities say the driver arrested after crashing a car into a restaurant on Southern California's Santa Monica Pier could face an attempted murder charge.

Santa Monica Police Sgt. Roberto Villegas says the suspect was on foot when he got into an altercation with construction workers on the pier early Monday. He returned shortly before 5 a.m. in his car.

Investigators say he drove around a barricade at the workers, crashing into the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant in the middle of the famed pier, where vehicles are not allowed. One worker suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Villegas says 21-year-old Daniel Arroyos was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Villegas didn't immediately know if Arroyos has an attorney.

The pier is open Monday.

Authorities say a car crashed into a restaurant on the Santa Monica Pier after an altercation between people in the vehicle and construction workers on the pier.

Police Sgt. Phillbo Rubish tells the Los Angeles Times one worker suffered minor injuries but no one was transported to a hospital following the incident shortly before 5 a.m. Monday. The driver was taken into custody.

Rubish says the car struck the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant in the middle of the famed pier, where vehicles are not allowed. He says the car also damaged an old boat that is meant to serve as a barricade.

Rubish did not provide details of the altercation or know the extent of damage to the restaurant.

Officials say the pier will be open Monday.
