The Latest: Los Angeles police kill man inside shopping mall

LOS ANGELES - The Latest on a deadly police shooting at a Los Angeles mall (all times local):

9:30 p.m.

A witness says police shot to death a knife-wielding man at a Los Angeles shopping mall because he appeared to be moving toward people with the weapon.

Police say the man was pronounced dead at around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday inside the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. His name wasn't immediately released. No officers were hurt.

Authorities haven't released details of the shooting but witness Tim Williams tells KABC-TV that the man had a long knife or machete.

Williams says police patiently and repeatedly told the man to put down the blade but for several minutes he kept gesturing with the weapon and moving toward officers, then back.

Williams says police finally opened fire when the man took off toward some people.
