HALIFAX - Bargain hunters in Atlantic Canada will get a chance to take advantage of post-Christmas sales today.

Unlike the rest of Canada, most Atlantic retailers are not allowed to open on Boxing Day so today is the first opening for most stores since Christmas Eve.

There were plenty of line-ups and heavy traffic in stores across the rest of Canada on Thursday.

This week's ice storm did little to deter shoppers in southern Ontario.

The manager of Toronto's giant Yorkdale shopping mall said the number of people in the mall appeared to be up compared to Boxing Day last year.

And the manager of a Future Shop in Vancouver said business boomed in his store as people snapped up deals on TV`s, computers and host of other electronic gadgetry.
