TORONTO - Two non-fiction titles that made the short list for this year's $10,000 John W. Dafoe Book Prize earlier this week are now also finalists for the $50,000 Donner Prize.
One is "From Treaty Peoples to Treaty Nation: A Road Map for All Canadians" (University of British Columbia Press) by Greg Poelzer and Ken S. Coates.
The other is "Middle Power, Middle Kingdom: What Canadians Need to Know about China in the 21st Century" by David Mulroney (Allen Lane/Penguin Canada).
The other titles on this year's Donner short list include "Leading Research Universities in a Competitive World" by Robert Lacroix and Louis Maheu, translated by Paul Klassen (McGill-Queen's University Press).
Marq de Villiers made the cut for "Back to the Well: Rethinking the Future of Water" (Goose Lane Editions).
And Donald J. Savoie is in the running for "What Is Government Good At?: A Canadian Answer" (McGill-Queen's University Press).
Established in 1998, the award recognizes public policy books by Canadians.
The winner will be announced on April 27.
