The body of a 47-year-old woman involved in a fatal June 24 crash on Westside Road has been recovered.

“We would like to thank our partners with the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) and West Kelowna Fire Rescue for their assistance over the past week conducting the search,”  Staff Sgt. Duncan Dixon of the West Kelowna RCMP said in a press release. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who witnessed this tragic event, as well as the woman’s friends and family during this difficult time.”

RCMP said on June 24 just after 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a two vehicle collision in the 2000 block of Westside Road in West Kelowna. Witnesses reported a grey sports utility vehicle attempted to pass a Kia SUV travelling northbound on Westside Road when it collided with the Kia SUV and travelled off the roadway into Okanagan Lake.

Days later, on June 30, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and the West Kelowna RCMP located the vehicle and the body of the driver with the assistance of West Kelowna Fire Rescue and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue.

The vehicle and the body of the driver were brought to shore. The driver has been identified as a 47-year-old woman from the West Kelowna area. The West Kelowna RCMP continues to work with the BC Coroners Service as they continue their investigation.

Due to the privacy of the deceased, as per the Coroners Act, no further information will be released by the RCMP or the BC Coroners Service.
