Kamloops, BC – The Kamloops Blazers announced today that they have signed 2001-born prospect Kyrell Sopotyk to a standard WHL education contract.

Sopotyk is from Aberdeen, SK and is playing this season with the Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.

“Kyrell has had an impressive season,” commented General Manager, Stu MacGregor. “He has shown a scoring prowess. We look forward to his continued development, and for him to push for a roster spot next season.”

The 5’8” and 160lb forward is among the top goal scorers in the league with 25 goals, nine assists and 34 points in 34 games. He is second in the league in goals, second in rookie scoring and 12th overall in the scoring race.

Sopotyk, who is a fifth-round pick, joins forward Connor Zary and defenseman Quinn Schmiemann as the third player from the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft that the Blazers have signed.

In other news, the Blazers and Spokane Chiefs swapped draft picks. The Blazers sent one of their two fourth-round picks in 2017 to Spokane in exchange for fifth and sixth round picks in 2017.
