Blazers named WHL Scholastic Team of the Year

KAMLOOPS – The Kamloops Blazers were named the Western Hockey League Scholastic Team of the Year at the WHL Awards Luncheon Wednesday afternoon in Calgary.

The award recognizes the team that achieves the highest overall academic performance throughout the regular season.

The Blazers were one of the youngest teams in the WHL this season, and had an astonishing 12 roster players completing high school at Valleyview Secondary in Kamloops.

The Blazers Education Advisor, Vic Bifano, was in Calgary to accept the award on behalf of the organization.

“We are proud of our players for working as hard as they have over this past season,” commented Bifano. “We are fortunate to have a great partnership with Valleyview Secondary in Kamloops. The school and teachers allow our student-athletes the ability to perform well in the classroom as well as on the ice.”

This is the second time the Kamloops Blazers have won the WHL Scholastic Team of the Year since the inception of the award in 1999-2000. The franchise received the award in the 2006-2007 season.

The WHL Bantam Draft will start tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. Pacific Time. It will be available, free of charge, via LIVE webcast available at http://www.whl.ca/.
