Canada to face Mexico in quarters at FIBA under-16 Americas Championship

BELEM, Brazil - DJ Jackson had a game-high 22 points in just 20 minutes of work off the bench as Canada cruised past Puerto Rico 96-76 on Wednesday to finish first in Group B at the FIBA under-16 Americas Championship.

The Canadians improved to 3-0 and set up a matchup with Mexico (0-3) in the tournament quarterfinals on Friday.

Caleb Houstan added 17 points and five rebounds for Canada while Shaedon Sharpe had 15 points.

Canada opened the game with a 10-0 run and was ahead 47-28 at halftime before running its lead to 33 points after three quarters.

Jesus Sierra led Puerto Rico with 14 points.

The top four teams qualify for the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2020.
