KELOWNA - For the third consecutive year, Big White Ski Resort will host the IPC Para-snowboard World Cup on January 17 and 19, 2015. This is the first event in Canada following the sport's debut in the Sochi 2014 Paralympics.

Highlights of the weekends events will feature Canadian Paralympians Michelle Salt and John Leslie who are confirmed to take on Paralympic gold medalists Evan Strong (USA) and Bibian Mentel (Netherlands).

Para-snowboarding is a new, exciting and growing sport that showcases snowboard athletes and their abilities. Para-snowboard competitor's elite athleticism and technical skills are a thrill to watch, and the challenges they have overcome are truly inspiring.

At the World Cup Event at Big White Ski Resort, athletes will compete in two disciplines, Snowboardcross and Banked Slalom. Snowboardcross showcases two riders racing head to head at speeds in excess of 50km/hour, down a technical course which features rollers, jumps, banked turns and tabletops. The fastest rider to cross the finish line in each heat, advance to the next round until the final heat determines the winner. Banked Slalom is a timed event much like skiing slalom, where riders race one at a time, but utilizes banked turns on an undulating course that follows the natural terrain. These exciting spectator events are extreme in nature and require dedicated training and incredible athleticism from all of the participants.

The 2015 Para World Cup is organized by B.C. Snowboard Association, and sanctioned by Canada Snowboard, Canadian Paralympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee.
