Deal reached to end almost 8-month long lockout at private sports club in BC

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. - A lockout at a private sports club in North Vancouver has ended more than seven months after it began.

Sixteen members of CUPE Local 389 at the North Shore Winter Club were locked out in late April at the club after rejecting a final contract offer.

The union says a tentative agreement was reached Dec. 23, with the assistance of a mediator, and members voted 91 per cent in favour of the deal on Tuesday.

The new deal expires June 30, 2015 and the 16 workers will receive a five per cent wage increase over the next 18 months.

CUPE national representative John Strohmaier says the union is pleased to have reached a no-concession deal just in time for the holidays.
