UPDATE: Barriere woman found dead after mobile home fire

Original Publication Date December 01, 2017 - 1:59 PM

BARRIERE - The body of an elderly woman was found after a structure fire at a mobile home park in Barriere yesterday afternoon.

Barriere RCMP Cpl. Robert Welsman says crews were called to the fire at the Sunset Heights Mobile Home Park at around 1:20 p.m. yesterday, Nov. 30.

"We located one deceased female at the scene of the fire," Welsman says.

According to new information from an RCMP release, the 82-year-old woman's next of kin have been notified of her death. The release also states bystanders reported to firefighters that it was believed the woman was inside her home.

It's not clear if the woman died as a result of the fire or had died previously, RCMP say. Both the blaze and the woman's death are not considered suspicious.

B.C. Coroners Service is investigating. The woman's identity has not been released.

"We are investigating a case that matches this description involving an elderly-aged female," Coroners Service spokesperson Andy Watson says. "No other information is available at this time as we are in the very early stages of our investigation."
