Audi and Porsche caught doing more than 200 km/h on Highway 1 in Chilliwack
Two drivers were caught driving double the speed limit on Highway 1 in Chilliwack by the RCMP's BC Highway Patrol late last week.
On Friday, March 30 at 3:00 p.m., officers impounded an Audi and a rented Porsche after the drivers were caught going 200 km/h in a zone where the speed limit is 100 km/h, according to a news release.
Both drivers were ticketed for excessive speed and were left without their impounded vehicles for seven days, RCMP said.
Later that day, BC Highway Patrol also took two other high-risk drivers off the road in Chilliwack. One was an impaired driver who received a three-day driving prohibition while their vehicle is impounded for the same amount of time.
The second dangerous driver was caught driving while prohibited. The driver was served with a court day and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.
"Our BC South Coast Highway Patrol officers worked hard to keep drivers safe this past weekend and they may have prevented some traffic fatalities by taking these four high-risk drivers off the road," Cpl. Melissa Jongema, BC Highway Patrol Media Relations Officer, said in the release.
"If you witness any drivers excessively speeding, driving while impaired, or otherwise driving in an unsafe manner, please report them to your local police."
